A few weeks ago Julien Behr managed to enter the Verdi-repertory as Fenton in Falstaff at the Flemish Opera with great success. Some press-cuts referring to this production:
“Bright performer and beautiful timbre: Julien Behr (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, 15.12.17)
“Young Tenor Julien Behr is truly a discovery: a lyric voice with exquisite phrasing, rich brilliance and emotion and on top of everything a vibrant stage-personality.” (Der Neue Merker, 13.12.17)
“Lo and behold! Julien Behr is simply wonderful as Fenton! Having been acclaimed mostly as Mozartian stylist so far, the French tenor confirms his vocal aptitude also for the 19th century repertory. One can eagerly await his role-debut as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor this spring.” (Forumopera, 12.01.18)
And indeed Julien Behr’s upcoming first Belcanto-challenge concerns the demanding role of Edgardo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. The production will open at the Bordeaux Opera on April 3rd, 2018.
